Deerfield in 2024: New Library New Energy
Citizens of Deerfield Approve a Tax Hike to Pay for this Beautiful New Tilton Library
On December 5, 2022, voters in the town of Deerfield paved the way forward to build on to our existing old library to create a $12 million new much larger building. There will be meeting rooms, a big children’s room, teen areas, senior meeting places, and plenty of room for just sitting.
It will be a marked improvement to our meager current library, here is more information about the new project from the Tilton Library website.
“The project’s estimated cost (updated 8-8-22) is $12.3M. The MBLC grant cuts that cost down to approximately $8M. The capital campaign will decrease the amount the town must finance by $2M, bringing the cost down to approx. $6M. There is a potential to get additional funding from Community Preservation Act (CPA) dollars, up to $1M.
LEED Certified Bonus
And the library will get another state grant for being a LEED-certified (energy efficient) design, in the amount of $100K. Also, the library’s board of trustees is committed to mitigating construction cost increases by taking a hard look at the original plans and retooling, within the limits of the grant.
